AAP-CA

The Project
AAP-CA is a nonprofit advocacy group focused on fighting for the rights of pediatricians and children. We were tasked with creating a responsive website for the organization to make supporters aware of current legislation and stay up to date on current events. The site was also meant to be aresource for those in the pediatric space to learn.
The Process
Kickoff
Before making any design decisions, we met with a representative of AAP to go over the organization's needs, goals for the new site, and what they didn't like about their current site.
It was found that we needed to design something that reflected the professionalism of AAP-CA while balancing their focus on doctors who serve children - a group that was perhaps receptive to some decorative, child-centric elements. We also needed to focus on some primary features of the site: an easy way to view all of the organization's core issues and a intutive calendar that displayed upcoming events. From there, we went to work!
Ideation, wireframes, design
Once we understood the needs of the project, we went to work on brainstorming options to meet the organization's needs. We started by creating a high fidelity homepage and a wireframe prototype for the rest of the site. With these deliverables, we were able to show AAP stakeholders how we intended to complete their site from a design perspective. After getting their feedback and making adjustments, we proceeded to the next stage: high fidelity design.

Getting it just right
Upon receiving rave reviews from AAP stakeholders on our high fidelity prototype, we made minor adjustments in the design to make it perfect. One element that was especially important was the calendar functionality. Our engineering team, in collaboration with our designer and client, had to produce a truly usable calendar that 1) housed all the events for neighboring AAP chapters in California, 2) would be easy for internal AAP stakeholders to edit, and 3) would be delightful and intuitive to use.
In the end, we we were able to meet all of these goals. The result was a beautful, fully custom responsive website for the organization.
